WHAT WAS THE NORTH EAST WORKFORCE SKILLS PROGRAMME?

The North East Workforce Skills Programme was a European Social Fund project that aimed to upskill the workforce within Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. The programme promoted

  • Education
  • Skills and lifelong learning, offering employers higher level Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Training solutions, to support them to sustain and grow their businesses

The programme aimed to support 17,560 employed participants by September 2023. The North East Workforce Skills Programme was delivered by a consortium of Further and Higher Education training providers in the North East.

The University of Sunderland were the lead partner in the consortium, who delivered the European Social Fund Programme worth £14,862,142.

What was available?

Employers were able to utilise ESF funding to address CPD requirements within their business up to a maximum of €200,000 over a three year period if private sector, and with no limit if public sector.

Consortium partners put together an offer for employers that included a variety of CPD and training solutions.
